Miri shopping

Miri is a city in northern Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. It is the second largest city in Sarawak, with a population of about 300,000.

The region is the birthplace of Malaysia's petroleum industry, which remains the major industry of the city. The first oil well (the Grand Old Lady) was drilled by Shell in 1910, and is now a state monument and one of Miri's tourist attractions.

The city's other major industries include processed timber, oil palm production and tourism. Miri has lately become known for its exotic environment. But it’s the shopping malls and the alcohol that attracts the Brunei population.

BINTANG MEGAMALL is a 10-acre plot Mall strategically located in the heart of Miri Central Business District. A prominent and strategic location that is easily accessible from all parts of Miri Metropolis through a combination of excellent road links and a comprehensive array of public transport facilities. Everything on your list can be bought here.

On the other hand, E-mart is a roaring success in Miri with big crowds especially during weekends. Within the E-mart complex, there are lots of stores selling all sorts of things ranging from magazines, mobile-phones, VCDs, DVDs, gold and silver jewelry, clothes, shoes, bags, etc. This is a no-frills shopping center caring to the budget-conscious consumers. But the rental here is not cheap….. With the high traffic flow, I guess the rental is maybe justified. And the center has the biggest electric fan in Borneo.

Liang Lumut Water Park

December 15, 2012 the country's first water amusement park made a splashing opening as gates opened for the first time to visitors across the nation flocking for the chilled, crystal clear waters, and water play areas.

But the park is small and only for children. They would not let me in, so I like to see it expand or hope to see an adult-sized water amusement park.

The park is expected to accommodate up to a hundred visitors at a time. The main pool measures 0.8 metres in height and harbours a water playground consisting of a slide and water parosals.

The park is located at Liang Lumut Recreation Club at Jalan Pantai Lumut, Belait. It opens all week on Monday to Thursday from 10am - 8pm, and Friday to Sunday from 9am - 8pm. Children's ticket cost $1 from Monday to Wednesday and on Thursday to Sunday, $2.

Belait District

Belait is the largest distric in Brunei. The word 'Belait' is taken from the name of the native inhabitants of Belait, the Belait People. The district is administered from the town of Kuala Belait, its capital.

Belait is governed by an appointed District Officer. The current District Officer of Belait is The Honourable Haji Jamain bin Momin. Other major towns are Seria and Sungai Liang.

The district covers about half of the entire nation. The landscape of the district varies from the peat swamps and lowland forests near the coast to the montane rainforesst in the interior parts of the district. The Belait River (Sungai Belait) flows through Belait and it is the longest river in Brunei.

We went to the far end, only a few dogs left ....

Exercise

When the body isn't moving, it starts to grow - and that's not good. Then It's time to start to exercise. Start slow with a bath in the pool though, but a start is a start. Water is perfect, air temperature never below 25, birds singing - what more do you need to float around? Next step is to swim.....

When I'm ready I'll slowly move into the training centre. The machines are scary, but I'll probably overcome the horror and in due time start to love them. Will inform when (if) that day appears.
